This tutorial can be done with any texture or colour or pattern you would like to use. For this one, I will be using a brick texture to give appearance of an animation waving through the hole in wall.

Lets get started :-)

1.  Open a new image, 400 by 400, I like to work large and resize afterwards. Set your foreground style box to red (html#800000) then flood fill your image.

2.  Go EFFECTS, TEXURE EFFECTS, TEXTURE, and settings are: You can go save as under the preset window and save these settings as red brick.

3.  Duplicate this layer and null layer 1 and make your duplicated layer your active layer.

4.  Select your freehand tool set to feather 0, antialias checked, and selection type freehand

5.  Draw out a ragged, rough circle to look like there is a hole in the wall and once done, click your scissors icon or your delete key to cut out the bricks inside the ants.

6.  Then go SELECTIONS, SAVE TO ALPHA CHANNEL, default through it to save your shape you drew to the alpha channel

7.  Keep ants (selected), add NEW RASTER LAYER,

8.  Then go to EFFECTS, 3D EFFECTS, CUTOUT, settings are

9.  Add a NEW LAYER and repeat CUTOUT only change vertical and horizontal to minus 32. The rest of the settings stay the same. Now you will see a black cutout giving your image a perspective depth look.

10.  Null your copy of layer one only leaving your two cutout layers visable then go LAYERS MERGE VISABLE and SELECTIONS, SELECT NONE to kill ants.

11.  Go to EFFECTS, TEXTURE EFFECTS, TEXTURE and click ok as using last used settings. So you will get a glittery effect on your black cutout.

12.  Unnull your copy of layer one and merge visable the cutout layer and the brick layer. Rename this layer 100 (dont panic, this is a scale number not a amount of layers you will need)

13.  NULL layer 100 and unnull layer 1. Now we going to make new layers that will have the hole decrease in size so we going to be repeating steps and only changing size of hole and cutouts. I will continue to walk through each step.

14.  Duplicate layer 1 then null layer 1 and make your duplicated layer your active layer.

15.  Go to SELECTIONS, LOAD FROM ALPHA CHANNEL and okay. Now you will see your outline of your hole appear on your solid wall. Go to SELECTIONS, MODIFY, CONTRACT number of pixels by 25 and okay. Now you will see your selection get smaller. Then click on your delete key or your scissors icon to cut out the wall inside the selection.

16.  Keep ants (selected), add NEW RASTER LAYER,

17.  Then go to EFFECTS, 3D EFFECTS, CUTOUT, settings are

18.  Add a NEW LAYER and repeat CUTOUT only change vertical and horizontal to minus 24. The rest of the settings stay the same.

19.  Null your copy of layer one only leaving your two cutout layers visable then go LAYERS MERGE VISABLE and SELECTIONS, SELECT NONE to kill ants.

20.  Go to EFFECTS, TEXTURE EFFECTS, TEXTURE and click ok as using last used settings.

21.  Unnull your copy of layer one and merge visable the cutout layer and the brick layer. Rename this layer 75.

22.  Keep layer 100 nulled and NULL layer 75 and unnull layer 1.

23.  Duplicate layer 1 then null layer 1 and make your duplicated layer your active layer.

24.  Go to SELECTIONS, LOAD FROM ALPHA CHANNEL and okay. Now you will see your outline of your hole appear on your solid wall. Go to SELECTIONS, MODIFY, CONTRACT number of pixels by 50 and okay.
